SDI Assistant Instructor Course

Do you want to start teaching and take the next step in your professional diving career?
The SDI Assistant Instructor Course is the perfect progression after Divemaster and prepares you to teach independently under supervision. At Ecological Divers Tenerife, you’ll receive hands-on, personalized training — right on the southern coast of Tenerife — led by experienced Instructor Trainers.


What to Expect:

As an SDI Assistant Instructor, you'll learn how to work with dive students, prepare and deliver theory and practical sessions, and begin teaching real course content — always under the supervision of an Instructor.
This course is the ideal bridge to becoming an SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI).


Course Topics:

  • Teaching methods & presentation techniques

  • Theory lessons & practical sessions in pool and open water

  • Student management & communication

  • Assisting with real-life dive courses

  • Preparation for the SDI Instructor Development Course (IDC)


Course Fee: €900

Includes:

  • SDI digital training materials
  • Course and certification fees
  • Personal coaching from an Instructor Trainer

Not included:

  • Rental equipment (available for an extra fee)
  • Personal dive insurance (mandatory – e.g. DAN, AquaMed)

Course Prerequisites:

  • Minimum age: 18 years

  • SDI Divemaster (or equivalent certification)

  • Medical clearance (within the last 12 months)

  • Valid first aid & oxygen provider certification

  • Minimum of 60 logged dives


After Certification

Once certified, you’ll be qualified to teach under supervision:

  • Conduct theory and pool sessions

  • Assist students in open water training

  • Actively support entry-level dive courses

  • Enroll directly in the SDI Open Water Scuba Instructor (OWSI) course
